India has an incredible variety of spices available and depending on the region in which you live the spices, style of cooking and ingredients having a meal can be a mouth watering, palate titillating experience.
Some of the spices used in Indian cuisine are:
Green and black cardamom
garam masala – which is a mix of spices, it comes in whole seed form or powder form. It is comprised of some
or all of the spices listed depending on the region you are from:
cinnamon – cumin – cloves – nutmeg – mace – cardamom – bay leaf – red chili pepper – mustard
seeds – sesame – dried ginger and garlic – turmeric – coriander – fennel
There are also mixes like garam masala, kitchen king or masala which can come either powder or seed form. This
alleviates the need to have 30 different spices on hand, it’s a quick easy way to add flavor. The majority of
the times it is already ground into powder form, you may lose that flavor freshness of the spice.
